Pifferari (m) (plurale tantum)
(with) definite article: ilocal term(s) for a duo or band (ensemble) including a piper (&c.)
A duo of a Ciaramella (shawm) and a Zampogna player; Central Latium; NB: The singular form (Pifferaro), which actually is the term for the shawm player only, is often erroneously used in literature [mainly by foreigners] for the.bagpiper (➺ Zampognaro); The simple reason for this misunderstanding is the fact that the term "piper" (and its equivalents in several languages) is historically (also) used to denote a piccolo player in a military band; NB: ➺ Zampognari (Molise).
