Rackett (n)

(with) definite article: das
➺ remark(s) below

According to Sachs probably from Upper German "Rank" (curvature, bend; compare Alsatian "ranklik"/Swiss "rankig" [with many bends]); According to Van der Meer it is also the German term for the drone of the Musette de cour; Not encountered as such in other sources; Actually, a Rackett is a 16th-17th century kind of shawm, the bore of which consist of a series of connected spiral channels; NB: In German vernacular it is sometimes called "Wurstfagott" [sausage bassoon], in French vernacular, for more obvious reasons, "Cervelas" [pronunciation: cervəlà], saveloy, which is a derivative of Latin "cerebellum" [brain].
